Resident Evil

The Story:

S.T.A.R.S. members Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, along with other members of Raccoon city's police special Alpha team, had been sent to investigate strange disappearances and murders around the surrounding city. A previous mission involving the S.T.A.R.S Bravo team has failed to report in. After an extensive search of Bravo's teams last know location, Alpha team is quickly ambushed by what appears to be rotting dog-like creatures and are forced to take refuge in a nearby mansion

The Take:

This is Capcom's remake of the original survival horror game Resident Evil from the PS1. More than just a straight port, director Hiroyuki Kobayashi and team have completely revamped this game with completely new graphics, slightly altered puzzles and new rooms and locations to visit.

New Graphics: Shocked is what comes to mind when you first lay eyes on the foyer of the mansion. The hallmark static 2D backgrounds have been meticulously recreated and are almost photorealistic. Add to it are  numerous full motion animations such as the flickering of a burning candle or flashes of lighting and the rustling of curtains from an open window which add an incredible amount of realism to this world and a more foreboding sense of danger, and this is just in the first few rooms. No one picks up a Resident Evil title and not expect to gun down zombies. They too, along with other enemies such as the Hunters and Crimson Heads (more on them later) are animated with great detail and respond appropriately depending on what you fire at them and where (fire at their feet and they continue to crawl to you with their hands or place your barrel to their temple and watch their head explode in a gory mess)
