MediaCorp's Ah-Jie, the newly appointed Ambassador for the National Blood Recruitment Programme reveals what and how it feels like to be a blood donor.
"Ironically, I'm actually very afraid of blood!" squeals the Caldecott Queen with a spark of girlish mirth at the launch of Singapore Red Cross Society's Blood Donation Drive at Ngee Ann City last Saturday.
"I'm scared of the sight of it and the needles too.
"In fact, I won't want to let people see my expression when I donate blood when they insert the needle because I'm probably a picture of trauma and distress then," adds the actress.
The newly appointed Ambassador for the National Blood Recruitment Programme reveals that she first donated blood some years ago during a blood donation campaign at the TV station.
Although that was the only one time she donated blood, Zoe has since been looking forward to becoming a regular donor despite her busy schedule.
"I think being able to give blood is a meaningful
act. The action can help many needy people. I hope to heighten the awareness
level of the importance of being a blood donor. If I can do it, so can they
(others)," says the artiste.
How did the popular star feel when she first donated blood back then? Did she squirm and shudder during the process since she's such a blood and needle freak, or did the Big Sister take everything in her stride?
“I felt weird when I saw and felt the flow of my warm blood, packed in a flaccid package. After the intial procedure, I managed to overcome my fears and apprehension. The rest of process was generally quite hassle-free," confides the celebrity.
Her experience aside, one may be curious to find out what the veteran's blood type is.
Jests Zoe:
"I have a relatively rare blood type, AB+, unlike those who belong to the
O+ blood group. They can donate their blood for almost everybody!"
With Zoe setting the example as a blood donor, shouldn't you also register to be a Samaritan today as well?
