The History

The Yamaha Portasound PSS-480 Multi Station was it's name, but most just called it the 480. Released in 1988, it was one of the best home keyboards one could find in a retail store with features that almost no other keyboard of it's class had.

I accidentally picked mine up at a department store while keyboard-shopping with my mother the same year it was released. I knew nothing of MIDI at the time, and I never took advantage of the MIDI I/O it came with-- but I did learn to understand how fm voice banks worked, and Yamaha had some great voices to manipulate.

So... check out these features for 300 bucks.
custom drum program
custom percussion break
99 voices
99 rythym styles (and they were cool-- so much better than Casio at the time)
3 intros/fill ins per style
sync. start/ending

normal, single finger and fingered modes
parameter options transpose, tuning, melody volume and tempo effects options vibrato, sustain, reverb, portamento and duet

internal storage bank for 5 custom voices
internal storage bank for 5 melodies
internal storage bank for 5 chords

   Anyway... that's about it.
