A very technical and scientific story here. As the heroin, Aya Brea, goes to the opera with her boyfriend, the lead actress goes crazy, and is transformed into Mitochondria Eve. A beautiful scene follows of the people in the building catching fire is seen. After a battle, Aya must travel around and find clues and learn about the new Mitochondria theory that has just been proven true. A bizarre twist comes along as Aya discovers the truth about Eve.
Graphics: 8/10
Not great, but very solid and consistent. This game came out between FF7 and FF8, and truly is the bridge between them graphic-wise.
Sound: 9/10
Amazy. The sound effects are very believable and the music is amazing. Did I mention that the intro song is very kickass? I didn't? Well now I did.
Control: 10/10
Easy. Nothing at all wrong with them. I like the battle system in it, too. Easy as hell to use and fun as hell to play.
Interface: 8/10
Solid. While not as thorough as FFT, it gets the job done very well.
Difficulty: 7/10
It can be hard at times, but I wouldn't call it REALLY difficult. Except those God-forsaken sewers.
Load Speed: 6/10
This game is pretty slow. Aya moves slowly, the load time isn't that great either. But it's not to the level where it is physically painful.
Effects: 9/10
Great, actually. The spells are damn cool and the intro is the purest form of eyegasms ever to grace the PSX. The intro's only rival is Chrono Cross. And Liberation is just damn cool.
Overall: 9/10
I like it. It's graphics are nice to look at, the music and story are very well done. The sound effects, music, and environment all come together like magic to produce near-perfection. It's only real downside is the slowness.
JSG's Thoughts:
This game is amazing. Second only to FFT as my favorite game ever. I love the style of it, so many conversations. You barely control your character at first, with an event happening all the time. I really love that about this game, very conversation driven, very plot-driven. The characters are amazing, and the setting is New York at Christmas time. The Christmassy season in the game really gives it a good degree of mood. And one of the best parts, no world map to hassle with!
