Chapter Two - The Cub
Naf was so happy to have received the cocoon she lost track of time, ad by the time she had finished reading over the book Glo had given her, the sun had almost set. She gasped at the lost time and picked up the book and her cocoon running through the snow blanketed forest she had fallen into. The farther she went the colder it became and she was shivering heavily before she burst out of the wood and onto the beach. Without a pause she continued running towards the large cliff upon which her house was built. The Winter's Maiden Lighthouse. She hurriedly stumbled up the path towards the Winter's Maiden, slipping the cocoon into a pocket on the beautiful fluffy winter coat she was wearing and the book into another. She got inside and looked around seeing no one but catching a note on the counter.
She walked over to the note and lifted it of the table quietly reading:
"Dear Naf,
I have been called away on a bit of business. I should be home by sunrise tomorrow. Sunset at latest."
Her father's neat signature ended the letter. With a gentle smile she removed the cocoon and headed up to the lights. She slowly lit the beacons and sat down against the railing. Sitting down with her back against the railing and her eyes cast into the beautiful sea, she removed the cocoon from her pocket. Gently trailing her fingers over the soft cocoon.
"Good night little Egyptan." Her voice was soft like snow graced upon silk and were the first human words the unborn Egyptan had heard.
Naf awoke to the gentle nudging of a cold nose against her catpaw mittened hands and the proding light of the sun. She stretched and yawned softly with all the beauty and innocence of a kitten. She opened her eyes and looked down at what stood before her. A beautiful Egyptan cub! She cried out in joy and picked up the small gray creature, hugging it against her warm jacket. Looking down she noticed a small note, she picks it up and reads:
"This is an "Icicle" Type, transparent portions are all over it. You'll think it's melting, as it rushes through the ice and snow - but it won't have any trouble living in warmer weather too."
It was signed by someone called Viridia. She smiled and soon forgot about the note as she saw the young Icicle Egyptan frolicing around the lights. They shimmered and danced off of the Egyptis in a beautiful dancing facade of colours. For a moment she almost panicked because it seemed as if the beautiful creature was melting into the snow as it danced and played in the sunlight, but the note's forwarning comforted her towards that idea.
"Oh my beautiful Fascia! You're magnificent!" Naf exclaims and scoops up the Egyptis. The name had rolled over her tongue without thought and now she stood smiling and holding the Egyptis.
*Fascia. It sounds so beautiful.* The Egyptis paused. *What is it?* Naf couldn't help but laughing.
"Its your name, sweet Icicle Fascia." Fascia smiled and nudged her head against Naf's shoulder.
*I'm hungry! ^^* And so, without another word, Naf went downstairs and began to ready breakfast for herself and Fascia.
Once again time sped past her without a pause to announce its passing and Naf found herself confronted by the setting sun once more. She and Fascia went up to the lights and Naf taught Fascia how to light them. It was then while she was looking out into the sea that she remembered the note from her father. Almost two days had past since she'd last seen him and his note had said he'd be home by the sunrise of this day. Or perhaps sunset. But here and now the sun was setting and there was no ship upon the sea, only the distant fading clouds and rays of the day.
So once again she sat down into the snow, back to the railing, eyes cast to sea, but this time in hope of seeing her father's boat return. Fascia trotted over to her and tilted her beautiful little head.
*Something's wrong isn't there?* All Naf did was nod and gaze out into the waters and the night. With a sad look and the subconcious understanding of the need to be comforting Fascia walked over to her and laid down, head upon Naf's lap.
