Paul's place in history:
Paul redefined the DH position to be one of average and speed

2003
Ryne Dee Sandberg

"Ryno" was, without a doubt, the best second baseman in the major leagues during the 1980s. Named to 10 straight All-Star teams from 1984-1993, winner of 9 straight Gold Glove Awards from 1983-1991, and the National League MVP in 1984, Sandberg's impact on his team and on baseball was far greater than his statistics may indicate. In his 1984 MVP season, Sandberg led the NL in runs scored and in triples, and he also led the Cubs to the National League Championship Series, where they lost to the San Diego Padres. In 1990, Sandberg led the NL with 40 home runs, 116 runs scored, and 344 total bases. He finished fourth that year in MVP balloting, the award going to Pittsburgh's Barry Bonds. Sandberg should have no problem getting into Cooperstown his first year of eligibility, 2003.
