About the report

In January 1998, the EIU, with the support of the six sponsoring organisations listed below, published Will the euro work?. The report was written by David Currie, Professor of Economics at London Business School (as well as a trustee of EmuNet) and it looks at the policies that are needed if economic and monetary union is to be a success. It builds on the platform of Mr Currie's previous, highly acclaimed report for the EIU, The pros and cons of EMU, which set out the arguments for and against membership of monetary union in an objective and dispassionate manner. To provide wide exposure to the ideas expressed in this second report, four of the sponsors (N M Rothschild & Sons, Prudential, Reuters, Schroders) have kindly arranged to make the content freely available via the EIU Internet site.

You can download a Portable Document Format (PDF) version of the entire report by clicking on the "PDF file" text. The PDF version of the document will provide you with an exact reproduction of the published work. To view the PDF file you will need Adobe's Acrobat viewer, which is available free from Adobe's website (details are in the EIU's Configuration tips).
