TeMika V. Grooms artistic talents showed early as a child when she won her first art contest in the second grade. Her creativity was always encouraged and it unveils itself in many forms that include jewelry design, sewing and other crafts but visual art has always been her favorite. Despite much recognition in childhood for her artistic talents, she decided to take a more technical path by obtaining a civil engineering degree from Georgia Tech and is working as an engineer in Atlanta, Georgia.  Fortunately, her love for art has been a constant in her life and she has continued to develop her skills, primarily as a self-taught artist, with much practice, study and observation.  To stay connected she has reached out to the community through art programs for children, participated in creative events, and started an art business to market hand-made items and artwork to the community, local gift stores and boutiques.

Her work focuses on the human figure as she strives to use its movement and physical expression of the face and body to create a sensation within the viewer. In the past, charcoals and pastels were her media of choice because of its tactile nature.  Her more recent work has been in acrylic where she feels she can obtain a more vibrant use of color and texture while still being able to manipulate it with her hands.  Much of her current work is commissioned portraits and original pieces that incorporate movement and perspective.

TeMika Grooms has participated in art shows and festivals showcasing her creativity and has received awards and recognition for her work.  In the future, she hopes to continue to develop her style and name in the arts community while feeding a passion for something she loves.
