Quick Info
The Ar1961 was designed from late 1936 as a successor to the Heinkel He50-thecatapault launched spotter and reconnaissance floatplane carried by German warships. The Ar196 was initially built to the extent of five prototypes (3 and 2 with single- and twin-float alighting gear respectively), of which the first flew in the Summer of 1938. The twin-float arrangement was selected for the Ar196 production model (536 aircraft) that entered service in the Autumn of 1939.
