Stone Forest is about a hour train ride from Kunming (the capital of Yunnan Province). It is an amazing set of natural rock formations that creates this massive forest of stones. Stone Forest is like a maze of rocks that you can walk through and get lost in. Some of the stones have legends attached to them because they resemble animals and human beings. There is this one legend that is linked to this rock that looks like a woman carrying a basket. The myth is that her lover left on an expedition out at sea. Every day she would go and wait for his return. He never did but she kept waiting. Eventually, she just never left and the Gods froze her into stone so that she can always be there, waiting for her lover.
The park takes about three hours or more to walk through but it is definitely worth checking out if you are ever in Yunnan.
