Selcuk
Ancient Ruins

Selcuk by far is one of my favorite little places. It's just a sweet small town but the hospitality and people are just top notch. We stayed at a small hostel ran by this cool Aussie woman and her Turkish husband. Here is where we got a chance to visit the ancient ruins of Ephesus (which was just beyond words and completely spectacular). We also try to sneak into St John's Cathedral after dark and thought we were almost going to be shot when the guard dog ran out to attack us as we try to crawl in through the gutters. We ended up being invited by the guard to take our own personal tour of the ruins. Even though we spoke no Arabic and he spoke no English, somehow genuine intuition and true human heart combine to make the universal language. He invited us for tea in his little booth and we just had a grand time. The next day, we also went and visited Virgin Mary's House, which I have to say was just a real breathtaking experience or perhaps more a "hold your breath" experience because it's so hard to catch your breath on the grounds of holiness. There was just an aura about the place that makes it holy ground. Also, the fact that millions have visited and was inspired spiritually there that all the energies of the world definitely make it sacred. All I can say was that it was peaceful and I felt God smile down upon me. The sun just shined a little bit differently there than the rest of the world.
