Nanjing also served as a capital of China at many points in its history. It was once a great city that was utterly destroyed in the thirties when the Japanese invaded. The sad event, known as the Rape of Nanjing, torn the capital to pieces and Nanjing and its people suffered greatly. Currently, it is a small city where the remains of the founding father of the new China resides (Dr. Sun Yat Sen).
