Music to My Ears

How can anyone not love music? I love all kinds of music but, of course, prefer certain genres over others. My recent passion is Alternative. It must be me going back to my Santa Barbara roots. I also love Trip-Hop (The Bristol bands). I like the mellowness but with a consistent beat. The blendings of different genres of music and beats in Trip-Hop and Acid Jazz are just incredibly rad. The CDs currently on rotation in my cd player are Coldplay, A Perfect Circle, Kina, Maxwell and Tricky. I grew up listening to R&B and that is where a lot of my knowledge lies. Of course, I also like modern rock and is a big fan of groups like Erasure, Duran Duran, and Depeche Mode. I also have a growing collection of hard stuff like Rage Against the Machine, Korn, Deftones, etc. Then again, one of my all time favorite female vocals is Ella Fitzgerald. Due to the vast selection of great music, who can truly narrow down what they really love?

My favorite genre of music is R&B. I love R&B because somehow it seems to hit me deeper internally. That is not to say other genres of music don't do the same either. I listen to music depending on my mood and what I need to balance myself at that moment in time. Sometimes, you just want to curl up and read a book while listening to Sade. Other times, you want to blast "Breakstuff" by Limp Bizkit and do a little raging on the road (no worries, I don't do it too often). The only type of music I don't go out of my way to listen to is Country. Somehow, I am just not drawn to it. To sum it up in simplified terms: love the soul, love the beats.

Hip Hop is part of my blood, though. Whenever I hear any hip hop like Nelly or Missy Elliott, I get this itch to jump up and dance. That's why I like hitting the clubs, for no other reason other than to shake my ass and kick it with my friends that share the same passion.

Now that I am currently living in Los Angeles, I have gotten the opportunity to go on the set of Soul Train to kick it and dance. On March 1st of 2003, I even got to attend the Soul Train Music Awards which was more than a dream come true. It's been a joy to meet some of my favorite music artists.
