Dali

Dali
The old city (heaven in Yunnan)

In my opinion, Dali is one of the most awesome places on earth. This small town is perhaps half a mile long (it takes about half an hour to walk from one end to the other). It is nestled in between the mountains and Erhai Lake. The place is quite a paradise. The weather is gorgeous, the landscape is magnificent and accomodations are cheap (about $1.25 US/person for a night). This little town caters to foreigners and it is the best place to go to relax and meet other travellers. It is the perfect little rest stop to unwind and rejuvinate after travelling for a while. There are also great places to eat that cater to the westerners' taste. It is one of the only places in China where I found delicious Chocolate Banana Crepes (but don't try the burritos, the Chinese have not master the art of Mexican cooking). The town is mostly inhabited by the Bai people, one of the fifty six minorities that exist in China. It is a great place to get authentic hand made souvenirs from the Bai minorities (from handbags to clothing).

Sights to See: The Three Pagodas, Guanyin (Goddess of Mercy) Temple and Erhai Lake (take a boat ride around).
