Chengde
Emperor's Summer Resort

Chengde is a city five hours away by train from the capital of China, Beijing. This wondrous city was where the emperor came to escape the extreme summer heat of Beijing. In Chengde, the remains of the largest summer palace ever built still exist in great condition. Also, in this ancient city, there remains eight exquisitely built temples devoted to Buddhism or Lamaism.
