| Ant and Dec got their big break in 1989 when they were cast as best friends in the children's television series Byker Grove! They both got in different ways however. Ant got the part by telling his mate that he was thinking of auditioning, and when his friend told his mum, she marched him straight to the studio! : o Dec got in by seeing an advertisement in the paper and ringing up for the part. They liked him so much that they asked him to come and audition! : D YIPPEE! When Dec first got a look at Ant, he was sitting down with his head in his hands. So Dec's first thought was: "What a miserable old b*gger!" But later on they became the best of friends! Ant surprised Dec with a christmas card one time saying: "To Dec, merry xmas! from Ant p.s. do ya fancy going to the Swindon game on Boxing day?" Thats right! Inside the card contained 2 football tickets to the next football match! From then on they were inseparable. |
| After they left Byker Grove they tried to have a go at singing. (The show producer said he would try to get them a record deal) They came back to the studio a week later to see if any calls had come, but no-one was interested. Just as they were leaving, the phone rang with someone who had accepted their offer. The show producer shouted down the hall for them to come back!
