| Our dog would not go on the paper at all, He went in the room on the left down the hall. We looked in the bathroom, and yes, he was there, Up on the toilet as if in a chair, The newspaper spread from one paw to the other, Reading the Sports section, cover to cover. He didn't stop there. Oh, no, no, he did not, For the more that he read, the smarter he got. From the paper, he learned about all kinds of stuff. But, he wanted much more, that just wasn't enough. He wanted to know what all kids learn in school. I pulled out my books and he started to drool. He eagerly soaked up the knowledge within, Then sat back and gave me that all-knowing grin. That was too easy; the books were not hard, I said, "What you need is a library card. In the library, you can read all the day long." Little did I know what all would go wrong. |
