All puppets are made from the same “basic” felt pattern. I made the pattern so that it would fit on a standard sheet of printer paper... and so that a large adult hand would BARELY fit inside. It’s usable by both adults and children that way! However, it’s quite simple to resize if necessary.
The basic process for GLUED puppets is this:
1. Cut yarn or embroidery floss in the appropriate color and length. I wind the fiber around my fingers about ten times and cut it. It’s also easy to cut across skeins of embroidery floss to obtain “tufts” of hair. Spread them out slightly before placing on glued area. Puppets use about five sections of hair. IF you have multicolor fringe available, you can simplify the process!
| 2. Place one felt piece on a hard surface. Spread about 2 inches of hot glue. Place yarn hair on glue. Use a spoon to press fiber into hot glue. Continue until all hair is applied. | ![]() |
3. Hot glue along all outer edges. Carefully place second felt layer on first.
4. Glue on eyes and pompom nose.
5. If symbol is to be made from felt, glue on symbol. OR use those fabric squeeze bottle paints or colored glues to apply symbol.
6. Draw on mouth, using fabric paint tube.
