Fronted by violinist/namesake Darryl Way, here's a band mid-'70s outfit we don't know much about ... We'll be perfectly upfront and tell ya' we bought the album 'cause it was released by the English Deram label and Deram typically issued fairly interesting and obscure material.

Produced by Shaun Davies, 1974's "Night Music" offered up a modestly entertaining mix of progressive, fusion and conventional rock moves. Doesn't sound earth-shattering? It wasn't. John Hodkinson had a decent voice and the band occasionally managed to plug into a decent rock riff ("Envoy"). Unfortunately, they apparently couldn't decide on a musical direction, giving the album a broad hit-or-miss feel. "Black September" was a fairly conventional and commercial ballad; "Flat 2-55" was a jazz-rock fusion-styled instrumental, "Anteros" was a decent slice of AOR, etc. etc. Our copy is an English pressing and as far as we can tell, these guys never saw an American release.

"Night Music" track listing:
1.) Envoy (Darryl Way - Dek Messecar ) -
2.) Black September (Darryl Way - John Hodkinson) -
3.) Flat 2-55 (instrumental) (John Etheridge) -
4.) Anteros (Darryl Way) -
5.) We're Waiting (Darryl Way) -
6.) Steal the World (Darryl Way - John Hodkinson) -
7.) Comrade of the Nine (Darryl Way) -
