The Loving Partner

The city was busy and bustling with drones

As I left a funeral veiled with cries and moans

Sadness set in as I passed a colorful flower shop

A scent aroused my attention and suddenly I stopped

The smell of rain was new and inviting

The sky broke with rays reminding

Of past memories hard to let go

Shrouded with emotions that I dare not show

The pavement below screams of cracks

I peer all over but a feeling I lack

One of content and pure delight

One of love held with all my might

Warm wind blows across my cheek

What is this urge that I fight to seek

I stand still holding fast in a crowd

Images of love and whispers aloud

I long for a thought or sign of trust

That I am not crazy or long for lust

Then her smile gleams across my view

Captured in time with a slight tint of blue

She is the face, the epitome of perfection

One without flaws and knows no rejections

She is not an illusion or deep sought mirage

She’s real and true as our old lake wooden lodge

Her scent is elegant and sweet embraced in subtlety

Her hair thin and black whisked by the winds mobility

Her eyes shinned off the sun but not too much

Her skin was flawless and warm to the touch

Then it was gone, everything but her scent

The winds stopped while the clouds began their descent

The rain came down and the people scurried off

Puddles emerged as I stood idle deep in thought

My smile slowly faded as reality set in

That life was years ago somewhere when

Times were perfect and constantly full of wonders

Our love blossomed like the hibiscus in the summer

How time has transpired after her death

She showers me with love and has never left

When times are harsh and I am most alone

She comes out of darkness and reminds me of home
