FIREFIGHTING

The bells screamed out throughout the station
As sweat and excitement flowed with anticipation
To encounter and extinguish a formidable foe
While onlookers are mesmerized by the spectacular show

Yet not all is what one might perceive things to be
For battling fires is multilayered in which one must see
Surrounded by fire, flames, and at times even death
Firefighters must perform without delay and absence of regret

They are engulfed to the brow with toil and fear
A veil of disillusion adjacent to denial may appear
For they are only human and at times even wrong
Struggling with chance that at the next one they'll be gone

It's an image a blemish quickly pushed to the side
As loyalty takes over forcing all doubt to subside
They are a strong breed a union to hold in reverie
Their deeds and accomplishments one's deep idle memory

They place their lives at the heels of the helpless
Never expecting more and always content with less
So that day when you call when death and fire ensue
Rest assured with unwavering belief, they are watching over you
