The interstage connects the booster to the sustainer.
It has 4 guide rods that mate with 4 guide tubes in the sustainer
As you can see from the picture the guide rods are all of different length. This is to facilitate alignment of the booster and sustainer.

There
are guide tubes for the rods to slip into in both the Sandhawk aft end and the
interstage. This allows the rods to be removed for shipping. They will be
friction fit and taped into the interstage.

I made the upper bulk head removable so it could be replaced if it got
scorched from the sustainer.
It also allowed me to install a video
transmitter into this section in hopes that I can get some video of the
staging.
