Note

Use the handbook as much as possible. It covers great detail, which is worth knowing. Some of it may be overlapping with General Medicine.

Introduction

Welcome to the Surgical Specialities page. Surgical Specs in RHH is made up of: Orthopaedics, ENT/Plastics, Ophthalmology (each 2 weeks). It has lots of clinics and theatre time scheduled. By far the most important are the clinics. It is definitely worthwhile to read before clinics, so here are some notes which will get you started in the right direction.

Ophthalmology

I have ophthalmology notes in hard copy format. I used the Ophthalmology CD for GP given to our year during our ophthalmology teaching sessions in 3rd/4th year. If you do not have this CD, you are welcome to borrow this CD from me, if you promise to return it.

ENT/Plastics

I did not study much ENT, but I suspect the basic things are required like otitis media etc. For Plastics, I advise you use the 'red book' written by one of the Plastics Surgeons. It is really good and very well written. I was told to study the following topics: incisions, wound healing, chronic wounds, burns, flaps. skin grafts, common hand conditions.

Urology

Ca Bladder | Ca Kidney | Disorders of Prostrate | Haematuria | Impotence | Testicular

Tumours | Urinary Calculi | Urinary Incontinence

Vascular Surg

Aneurysms | Occlusive Disease - Acute | Occlusive Disease - Chronic | Varicose

Veins | Misc Vasc Topics
