Medical Students

Back to homepage

For medical students that manage to venture into their 2nd year of medical training at the Tasmanian School of Medicine, I suggest you study the Respiratory System with keen interest. This is because almost all of the material presented in Human Biology is visited again in 2nd year, as part of Respiratory Physiology - ISF2. Although the material is learnt in 1st year, you will find many of the concepts are re-visited in 2nd year.

I suggest you focus strongly on the Respiratory System this year, and learn it very well. This will pose as a strong foundation for next year, and you will find Respiratory Physiology - ISF2, a little easier to deal with, particularly when the system of lectures are presented by different lectures in different formats.

I also suggest you study the Cardiovascular System with great interest too as many of the basics presented this year are re-visited next year, although next year you will study more abnormalities which can occur with the CVS system.

Keep in mind the anatomy of the systems you are studying because this will help you with Gross Anatomy in 2nd year. This is not a priority at this stage, but knowing the anatomical landmarks, structures and relations at a novice level will enable you to visualize the material much better than normal.
