| THE FIRST CHRISTMAS |
| The little babe of Bethlehem, There in the manger lay. So sweet, so pure and precious, On that first Christmas day. His mother knew He was the Christ, God's own beloved Son. These things she pondered in her heart, While angelic songs were being sung. Oh, how this mother did rejoice, Still her heart was troubled there, She must have known the agony, That someday He must bear. She knew that she was richly blessed, She was God's own chosen one. All earth would call her blessed, The mother of God's Son. She knelt beside the manger, Where the baby Jesus lay. She prayed to GOD the Father, For strength against that day. Against the day, she must stand, And see those precious hands Nailed to the cross of Calvary, To die for sinful man. She placed a kiss upon His brow, As she held Him in her arms. She pressed Him gently to her heart, This Christ child she had born. She lay Him in the manger, Again she knelt to pray, For grace to see him die in shame, For strength against that day. |
