How do I get there?
Back by popular demand, Barry Drake, who has often been called a walking encyclopedia of Rock & Roll, will be giving a multimedia presentation of 80's Rock and Roll history in the Rutgers Student Center MPR on October 18, 2001. Last year's presentation on the 1960's was so successful that he has been invited back to Rutgers.
A Manhattan College graduate, he has been totally involved in the world of music since buying his first Rock & Roll record in 1954. Growing up in the New York City area he went everywhere there was music to be heard. He saw everyone from Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry at the Brooklyn Paramount in 1957, to Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin at the Fillmore in 1967. When San Francisco exploded with the Summer Of Love, Barry was there, hanging out on the streets with the Grateful Dead and The Jefferson Airplane.  In 1965 Barry became a performer and songwriter and in 1970 was signed to Capitol Records.  Since then, Barry has recorded three albums and has extensively toured the United States and Europe.  In 1984 Barry added Rock & Roll Lectures to an already busy concert schedule.  From their humble beginnings, Barry's Rock & Roll Lectures on the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's have become the most popular shows on college campuses.  He has been voted 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999 & 2000 Campus Lecturer of the Year by the National Association for Campus Activities and 1994, 1995, and 1998 Campus Lecturer of the the Year by Campus Activities Magazine.
