rudbeckia in the front bed...I should clarify my mention of stalking in the previous entry. There might be a difference between being stalked and being located by someone that you dated in high school but haven't seen or heard of in more decades than you care to admit.

I wrote about Carly in an entry on November 22, and in the two following entries. And then I did nothing. I made no attempt to contact her. I'll admit that her phoning my parents for news of my whereabouts didn't slip entirely from my mind and that I was flattered and even a little intrigued when I first learned of it. But heck. The bonds of hearth and home, you know? And the wuss factor.

Anyway, time passed and the impulse to respond to her inquiry passed. Then last week, Carly contacted me at an E-mail address that I use for students, an address so widely listed that no student of mine can fail to find it.

To keep this short story short, I'll conclude for now by saying that we've exchanged a few E-mails that catch us up on our successes and shortcomings, our joys and concerns, over the last thirty-some years. She now has children who are older by a decade than she was when I last saw her. Sheesh! Time has flown! More another day.

Okay, when weather becomes a prime topic, then I know the news is slow, but the weather was so great all weekend -- clear skies, mild temperatures (never above 85 F) -- that we had the AC on for only a few minutes one morning to cut the humidity. We lived and breathed and had our beings outside during the day, and in the evening we lived and slept with open windows and ceiling fans as the temperature fell to the high sixties.

I spent the daylight hours working in the yard, catching up on chores that I'd put off because of heat (turning the compost, for instance), and catching up on bike-riding time with Owen and Taylor.

In the evenings, I spent some time learning about Blogger. I have started a web log and I have set a link to it on the index page. For now, I won't link to the web log from the individual journal entries (although I might eventually), and no link currently exists to the web log from the index page at Tripod (although it would be easy enough to link to the web log at GeoCities from Tripod).

Blogger seems easy to use, but I have more to learn about linking individual blogger entries and about organizing blogger archives. I love new gizmos, but I might have to read the directions this time, and my genetic code is all wrong for doing that.

But right now, work beckons, so I'm off.
