hacked...

ready for volleyball on the Fourth...I spent thirty minutes Friday morning looking for a blue floppy disk that I had to have for work. This disk holds some files that I NEEDed with a capital need, files that I don't have uploaded to the Internet or to the school's server. I looked high. I looked low. I accused and stomped, glared and glowered.

I didn't find it in my shirt pocket until I had given up and was driving to work.

Any questions about how small I felt?

Well, about the time I had finished typing that paragraph this morning, a little window (one that couldn't be closed) popped up and someone named "Morpheus" showed up to chat. (I'm not sure about the way this hacker spelled the name.) He/she claimed to be from the Matrix. He/she could see my screen from his/her computer. He/she was uninvited.

Ladies and gents, I haven't been hacked this destructively before. In fact, I don't know that I have been hacked before. Evidently, I have taken too few precautions against this possibility, relying for protection on a virus program that I update too infrequently and on the zebra-effect. But now I'm off to install a firewall and rid this machine of the virus Morpheus appears to have left behind (BackDoor-G2.svr.gen). Beware of a file named msrexe.exe.

I'll be gone until I assess and repair the damage. It was time to clear off the hard drive anyway.

Reading:
Fay, but since Taylor finished the second Harry Potter this morning, I might have to shift gears and have another Potter Saturday. His memory for detail continues to astonish me.

Nevermind. An affair and gunfire hooked me on Fay. I'm so easy.

Watched:
Thursday night, Howards End.
Friday night, Good Will Hunting.
