Isonzo Battlefield Tour in Italy
This set of photos highlights our weekend trip to the Isonzo Battlefield in Northern Italy.  There were no less than 11 battles in this region for nearly zero progress by the Italian attackers.
Regina is standing right on top of one of the principal fighting areas.  No trenches here - only solid rock.  The Austrian (Austrian, Czech, Croat) defenders hated the Italians.  Instead of trenches, they built up stone walls - strange but true. This is in the early morning just outside ancient Aquilea, once the Roman Empire's fourth largest city.  It had a large seaport and was connected to the Aegean Sea 30 miles away by Roman-engineered canals.
Here I am in a much better mood.  My ship has just come in!
Here I am enjoying my visit to the local cafe.
Regina seems to have had fun, though.
