Well another week gone by. This week started off with our intro to the RCMP rifle on Tuesday. We learned the course of fire and some different ways to hold the rifle. Then next day we qualified. All shots are at 100 meters. You had to score 60 out of 100 to qualify and if you scored 80+ out of 100 you receive your crossed rifles to put onto your serge. 100 out of 100 netted you the crossed rifles with the crown. I was feeling pretty good about my shooting ability with the rifle. But on the last shot standing unsupported my shot drifted about an inch over the line losing me 2 points. My final score was 98 out of 100 with 7 X. I am proud to say that was the best shot of the troop. But oh so close to the crowns. The rest of the week I have been fighting the flu. Either that or and invisible elephant has been sitting on my chest. Luckily all our fitness tests are over. We had some regular classes on Wednesday morning and then on Thursday and Friday we had practice detachments. On Thursday I was an actor for my troop mates. Then on Friday I got to play police man and deal with my troop mates who were acting. With detachments, you drive around Depot in a police car and you wait for a call from telecoms. The call will be a complaint and the give you the very bare bones details. You have to dig for more info then decide on an action plan. You have a Cpl in the car with you and another troop mate who is not allowed to say anything to help you but will do what you tell him/her to do. You have to follow the process all the way through verbalizing to the Cpl why you are doing what you are doing and what you would do next. My scenario went rather well but unfortunately it was only a practice detachment. Hopefully I get one that I can handle on Monday. That is when I have my final detachment. The one that counts. Then on Tuesday I have my panels. This is where I get sent into a room with three members. Two of them are members from across Canada and can be any rank including officers. One is a facilitator here at Depot. I will go in the room and they will had me a problem. I will read the problem to my self and then to them. Once I have done that the time will start. I have 5 min to solve the problem using the RCMP CAPRA problem solving model. Then when the time is up I have to explain my actions. Then to end this peaceful stress free week I have my final exam on Friday. But then that is it. Barring any mishaps on my part I will be done. The next week will be filled with a lot of drill and a few lectures and thats it. If I fail one of the final three that will also be time to have a re do. I have no plans to do that though. Here is the tough week. Hold your breath week 21 is here. |
