Valley Wheel Vol. 39 No. 13 GOVERNOR'S VISIT
President On Call 24/7
by Pres. Dindo Santos
"CHEERS TO OUR GOVERNOR"
Governor Tony, we bid you and your party a warm welcome on the occasion of your official visit to our club tonight. While this is yet the first of your sojourn here this Rotary year, and an official one at that, we do recall and acknowledge with gratefulness the support you have continuously been extending us, and the whole of the Marikina zone, such as the following: your sponsorship of our assigned leg in the district golf tournament during the time of your namesake PP Tony F and lending your valuable presence in our club anniversary and Christmas party that year, for graciously obliging our invitations to be the clubs resource speaker on International Service in our CREP program and at our club anniversary during the time of PP Dante and the recent club sponsored Rotary Academy 101 for the clubs of the Marikina zone, among many others.
Last week, we conducted our club assembly in relation to this evenings official visit with DDG Tonipi, an equally conscientious and steadfast champion of the ideals of Rotary. He was thoroughly apprised on the state of our club administration, its service projects and activities in relation to this years thrusts of RI and that of the district leadership, and the clubs accomplishments as of date. We do not have any doubt that he would have given, or will give you a fair and accurate assessment and evaluation of his observations on these matters.
Tonight, it is our happy privilege to welcome you and your party, a cherish opportunity we have anticipated to further strengthen the ties of friendship and fellowship among usindividually and collectively. And it is also our bounden duty to listen to youour beloved District Governor, for what you will have to say in the discharge of your functions. Rest assured that we will continue to march with your path of service, as you lead the Rotarians of RI District 3800 LEND A HAND.
Cheers to Gov. Tony.

Club Assembly. The purpose of the club assembly is to discuss with the Assistant Governor or Governors Representative the program and objectives for the year as agreed upon by the board of directors. Although it has no administrative function, it does offer an opportunity to appraise our clubs program of activities and exchange of ideas about step that may be taken to make the program more effective. It took more than a year even before President Dindo Santos was elected as President to conceptualize how he will present his plan and objectives for the Club Assembly during AG visit. The PowerPoint presentation with audio video clips was a challenging feat. The shooting for the participants was a difficult task to do considering the schedules we have. However it was done without a hitch. The technical aspect of editing and transferring it in a Power Point presentation that follows is a Herculean task for our President. It took him so many sleepless nights hemming one clip to another and incorporating text and digital pictures of our finished project. Everything was recorded in a Compact Disk but the whole presentation was to be played from the Hard Drive to compensate for the speed. The outcome was fine but not the ideal thing we thought of due to technical problems of the audio. It was labor of love from our President Dindo Santos. I congratulate him for doing such high tech presentation never been seen before in any club in the whole District. Every thing was done without outside professional assistance but only through diligence and patience of President Dindo.
Health Watch. It was a lazy Sunday just like any other Sundays, however this did not hampered the Clubs Health Watch Project at Malanday Elementary School. Chairman Ed Navarro was ever present together with President Dindo and Sps. Cecil. There were more than thirty patients who benefited from the free Consultation, free Blood Cholesterol determination, and free Blood sugar determination. Those who lend a hand in this endeavor include: PP Tony Fidelino, PP Flor de La Paz, PP Boy Ong, PP Joe Judan, PP Jun Farcon, PP Rudy Valentino, Dir. Del de Guzman, Dir. Fabi Cadiz, Dir. Pons de Leon, PE Kiko Pe Benito, IPP Dante Verano, Dir.Celso Cruz, Rtn. Charlie Dytan, Rtn. Claro Capco, IPDG Efren de Guzman, PD George Ty. We also have Sps. Jehan Capco, Sps. Zeny Farcon, Sps.Vising de la Paz, Sps. Noemi, Rotakid DL, Ayessa and Jayjay Farcon.
Governors Visit. It is one of the most important events during the year for our club. It is an opportune time for the Governor to undoubtedly discuss our progress towards the goal we have set and how we perform in accordance with with the District thrust set in the beginning of the Rotary year. I believe the visit will not be purely administrative but a favorable time to deepen and strengthen relationship with our club. Welcome District Governor Antonio Tony Puyat and companyhope you have a pleasant stay with us.

"MARCO POLO OF ROTARY"
Rotarians go to great heights to honor 'Marco Polo' of Rotary.
On 2 August, 25 Rotarians and others scaled unprecedented
heights to honor the memory of James Wheeler Davidson, a
Rotarian from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, who is credited with
helping make Rotary the international organization it is today.
The group made the 2,909-meter (9,543 feet) ascent of the
Canadian Rocky Mountains to rectify a 67-year old oversight by
the Canadian Geographic Names Board to officially name the
peak Mt. Davidson, according to Robert Lampard of the Rotary
Club of Red Deer. Davidson gave the keynote address when the
Red Deer club was chartered in 1923. As part of the club's
2005 Centennial project, Lampard began researching highlights
of Davidson's life and his impact on Rotary.
Jim Davidson was a U.S. citizen who moved to Calgary in 1906.
He joined the Rotary Club of Calgary in 1914 and became club
president in 1919. A member of the second Admiral Peary North
Pole expedition in 1893, Davidson traveled the globe in later
years spreading the Rotarian message. Davidson helped charter
a record 32 clubs in locations ranging from Banff to Bangkok
and from Athens to Auckland. There remain 13 Rotary clubs
founded by Davidson, including the one in Bangkok.
"Jim Davidson's wanderlust was insatiable," says Lampard. "To
him, roads and Rotary were inseparable."
Known in his lifetime as "The Marco Polo of Rotary," Davidson
is also recognized for completing the missing link in the
circumnavigation of Rotary from Europe to Japan, Lampard
explains.
Lampard learned that after his death at age 61 in 1933,
Davidson's former Rotary friends and the Alberta Motor
Association contacted authorities in Ottawa asking that a
so-far unnamed peak on the Canadian Rocky Mountains be named
after Davidson. The Names Board agreed to the request, but due
to an oversight, the name was never officially recorded. In
2002, Lampard and his fellow Red Deer Rotarians brought the
clerical error to the attention of authorities, and "Mt.
Davidson," one of the highest peaks on the eastern slopes
of the Canadian Rockies, was finally added to topographical
maps.
