Classification Talk: Restaurant Operation

President On Call 24/7 by Pres. Dindo Santos

"BASIS OF OUR MEMBERSHIP"

One may ask, 'How can one be a Rotarian?' One should have a profession or a business. This is the classification principle. It is important to know the classification of every member of one's club, so that you know who to approach when you need a thing done, not only in club projects but also on personal matters. When you need to design a poster or a bulletin cover, you should approach someone whos into arts a physician when you have a medical mission.

Next is our love for fellowship. We joined and continually enjoy Rotary because of the various forms of fellowship we have. These include the different sport tournaments the District provides and the recreational activities individual clubs have.

Lastly is our common interest to serve and help those in need. This is our showcase to the community. This proves that Rotary is not just a lunch or a dinner club.

Though the District announced that there will be no competition, this is not a reason to finish this Rotary Year sitting down. We still need to accomplish the projects we are doing year in and year out. We have lined up several of them (66 at the least) and the only way we can finish them before this year ends is to do one project at a time. We will have one to two or even three a week but by June 30, 2004 we can say... 'Aaah!... we have done what is expected of RC Marikina... with or without an award'.

he other twist is doing our own projects while helping other clubs. That is why the District and Rotary International encourage club twinning. Two, three or even more like a zone will implement a common project. Our role as the Mother Club of Marikina is to see to it that all eight clubs become an effective club. A mother duck will only have peace of mind if she knows that all her ducklings crossed the stream. It is a challenge for our club to stay among the top while sharing our projects with others. This is the true spirit of Rotary. The Rotary Paul Harris dreamed of, the dream that will be a reality only when we learn to LEND A HAND.

RC Marikina Website Relaunching. It was what we expected to happen in any high tech presentation like last July 10; the phone line was unexpectedly not working although two laptops were ready with the multimedia projector in fair working condition. Good enough our webmaster had save all the webpage for presentation in a CD. It went suitably; members got excited to see their new digitized pictures to be aired online. There were good suggestion like inclusion of our Club History on the webpage and if possible to include available old bulletins in the archives. All these were taken into consideration by our Webmaster President Dindo Santos. View the beauty of our webpage anytime, logon, and type in the address bar: http://www.rcmarikina..org. and see the Rotary Club of Marikina in the world wide web.

Concern for the Handicapped. St. Camillus Rehabilitation Center is managed by the Camillian Orders which accommodate twenty six handicapped residents. They are patients with spinal cord injuries classified either paraplegics or the quadriplegics, patients who had stroke and cerebral palsy. They are either wheelchair-borne or completely bedridden. Most of them have no relatives to take care of them or they were simply abandoned. Some 17 staff and personnel of the Center attend to their daily basic needs from feeding, bathing, personal hygiene, physical mobility, beddings, medical, social and psychological needs to experience a normal life. July 13 was the feast day of St Camillus and a concelebrated Mass was held in his honor at the Center. It was an opportune time for the Rotary Club of Marikina to convey brotherly concern for these handicapped. President Dindo Santos led the club in the offering of three sacks of rice, fifty used bed sheets, toiletries, bath soaps, towels, food stuff and groceries. After the celebration of the mass, members of the club together with the family of Rotary had interaction with the handicapped patients and the staff.

President Dindo was accompanied by VP Vincent Santos, PP Tony Fidelino, IPP Dante Verano, PE Kiko Pe Benito, Dir. Doy Smith, PP Joe Lee, PP Joe Judan, Treas. Abbet Tan, Rtn. Claro Capco, Rtn. Benjie Malaya, PD George Ty, PP Manny de Guzman, PP Flor de la Paz, Rtn. Charlie DyTan, PP Ver Farcon, PP Jun Farcon, Rtn. Eduard Farcon, PD Jessie Cruz, PD Ed Navarro, Dir. Pons de Leon, Dir. Del de Guzman. Members of our family of Rotary who joined us includes: Spouses Cecil, Eula, Lydia, Vising, Fely, Arlene, Julie, Noemie, Jehan, Zeny de Guzman, Isay Cruz. Children of Rotarians who also joined us include: Kid Justine Bennet Malaya, Virgilio Farcon III, DL Verano, Ayessa Capco, Kayle and Mayka Pe Benito, Macmac Farcon and Aldrin de Leon. It was really a family affair of Rotary Club of Marikina. We heard mass together as family and expressed our brotherly concerned to these handicapped residents of St. Camillus Rehabilitation Center together. The fellowship that followed partaking delicious sandwiches adds congeniality to the relationships among members and their family in this austere activity. We look forward to similar activities that will deepen camaraderie among members and families.

The club acknowledges the generosity of PP Joe Judan and PP Manny de Guzman for sharing one sack of rice each, PP Ver Farcon for giving the fifty bed sheets from RC San Juan, Dir. Pons de Leon P 1,000 cash and the rest who in one way or another had shared in the offerings.
