Ladies Night / Speaker: Dr. Vicky Belo "Body Sculpting"

President On Call 24/7 by Pres. Dindo Santos

Today is the last day of the first month of this Rotary Year. Yet, it is evident that we have already accomplished several projects and activities, albeit with a minimal cost. We spent only for the handicapped at St. Camillus, Xerox materials for the Dengue Awareness Campaign and for streamers in our other projects. The books we donated were from Asia Foundation, the chairs were from PDG Edison Ang, the Vitamin A was last years excess, our Health Watch was through the kindness of our friends in the pharmaceuticals and I did the website as a pastime.

Starting next month we will be spending more for our projects. The Livelihood Training will be launched on August 2, the Timpalak is scheduled on August 14 and 21, Duckpin Bowling will start on August 3 and we will host Rotary 101 on August 16. These committees have asked for their budget. We are due to pay our Semi Annual Report to Rotary International. The Demand is getting higher while the Supply is less. The Ways and Means Committee reported that we are short of our targeted solicitation from our Souvenir Program. Most of our members are still paying for back dues last Rotary Year and we have not collected their dues we will use to pay R. I. I therefore appeal to all concerned to please try to settle their respective arrearages as soon as possible, and to exert extra effort to solicit advertiser, patrons and/or donors to augment and/or meet the Souvenir Committees target.

We need funds to sustain all our projects and activities. There is a choice between holding another fundraising campaign wherein most of us are the donors as well. In a raffle, most of us buy our ticket allotment for themselves. So just we burdened our own members again. Another probable solution is to be frugal and tighten our belts. Please do not overspend our budget. It is highly appreciated if we can still have a savings even after a project is done.

Our worth as a Rotarian is not only measured by the money we give the organization. More than that, we are called upon to participate in attending meetings, forums and projects. Our camaraderie is strengthened when we see each other more often. You can also share your talent. Participate in our weekly program, volunteer in the committees where you see you will be of help.

If you still remember my informal lecture during one of our Fireside Meeting. These are the 3 Ts in Rotary TIME, TALENT and TREASURE. If you have all of these three, so much the better. If you have only one but uses it to the fullest you can already LEND A HAND.

Classification Talk. A new member in a club is always given the privilege to talk about his principal recognized business or professional activity. This is an opportunity for the club to know more about him and his area of business or profession and the same way for the club to be encourage in recruiting more to fill up other vacant classification. Last meeting, baby Rotarian Fernando Ferdie Vergara talked about Manpower recruitment and promotions particularly in the entertainment industry. Rtn. Ferdies ambition was to become a pilot however; he took up a premed course at Letran College upon the desire of his parents. He was not happy about it and took another course in Banking and Finance at San Sebastian College then earned his MBA at Letran College. He started as a detail man/salesman in a drug firm then became an Account executive at Business Day Corporation and soon a credit and financial analyst at Far East Bank. At Present his business interest includes; Shoe Manufacturing, Talent development and management and operates Ekis Videoke and Restaurant. He opined that talent development and promotions that send entertainment talents abroad is a big boast to our economy. He usually looks down in this business activity because of the social stigma attached to it but had a changed of heart when he realized it helped a lot many families survived the economic difficulties through dollars or yen remittance from the talents. The classification talk catches the attention of the members who not only listened well to the speaker but actively participated in the open forum.

Literacy Forum. If you happen to passed by any school buildings in the whole city of Marikina, chances are you will see a banner about CLE, Concentrated Language Encounter. It is a method of instruction now applied to all public elementary schools in the City of Marikina, a project spearheaded by our daughter club the RC Marikina North. It was the same topic that was expounded last July 26 at the Literacy Forum held at Riverbend Hotel hosted by RC Marikina North. Our President Dindo Santos, PP Tony Fidelino, PP Boy Ong and Dir. Doy Smith represented our club in this activity.

Vitamin A Supplementation Project. Our Club implemented a Vitamin A supplementation Project today at Sto. Nino and Malanday Elementary School at 2:00 this afternoon. The objective of the project is to prevent and control Vitamin A Delinquency (VAD) among Grade 1 pupils in public elementary schools through giving of Vitamin A Capsules twice a year. We want to create awareness, educate student, teachers, and parents regarding the importance of Vitamin A. Details of this project will be discussed in this next issue of Valley Wheel.

Body Sculpturing. Tonight we are lucky to have a very popular, beautiful and sexy doctor in the person of Dra. Vicky Belo who will talk to us about Body Sculpturing. She was my classmate at the University of Santo Tomas in Medicine. She had extensive training abroad in the field of Dermatology and Dermatological Surgery. She is very successful in her practice. A pioneer in the Philippines to use of the laser technology in Dermatology. She is popularly known to be the image enhancer of popular movie stars and her latest model is Katya Santos.
