President On Call 24/7 by Pres. Dindo Santos

President On Call 24/7 It is a meaningful title for my Presidents Corner. It describes well my daily routine. As a doctor, Im on call anytime. 24/7 is often seen in websites, meaning available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is how I like to serve my term on call anytime, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

After the rigorous planning sessions, we worked on and finalized our Plans and Objectives. We submitted it in as prescribed by the Districtthe last week of June. All that we have to do is implement these plans. For the whole month of July we will be shooting the video of each committees and transform it into a high tech Video Power Point presentation. Please come on your appointed scheduled time of taping. This will make things convenient when we sit down with the Assistant Governor in connection with the Official Visit of DG Tony.

Also, we are going to implement a new members grouping. This will be used in all activitiesin following up attendance, when we have a potluck, in recruiting prospective members, in scheduling the participants of our weekly program. I will give a special prize for the members of the best group at the end of my term. Moreover, those who will attain a 100% attendance for a whole quarter is eligible to join a special raffle to be drawn on the last meeting of September, December, March and June.

Let us pay our dues early so that we can pay Rotary International promptly and implement all our activities on time. Please turn in your solicitation for our Souvenir Program. Let us continue to act together so we can keep and maintain our stature as premiere club in District 3800. Thank you for LENDing A HAND.

...anecdotes and verbatim... by Sec. Val Varcinal

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Marikina Bulletin 1st issue Volume 39 of Valley Wheel. As club secretary and editor in chief of this Bulletin, this will be my primary conduit of information about the club. This information includes all club activities, announcement of forthcoming activities, highlights of previous activities with pictures, summary of attendance, birthdays, anniversaries, rotary information and the rest that could stimulate interest and eventually improve club attendance. It can also promote fellowship and contribute to Rotary education. This bulletin can be of benefit not only to members but the club itself. We cannot promise a faultless bulletin but a consistent and reliable weekly bulletin to your reading delights. We will appreciate constructive criticism and suggestion that you will provide us, this will further enhance our bulletin, the Valley Wheel.

Why anecdotes & verbatim? In the Webster dictionary, anecdote is a noun: narrative, a short account of an interesting or amusing incident or event, while verbatim is an adverb: word for word, exactly spoken or written. This will be my brief account of our club activities as it happened as I witness it or sometimes from the words of those who actually participated in the said events. That is why the titleanecdotes and verbatim

District Awards Night. The most awaited event in all the District Activity, the climax of the Rotary Year. The Best among the best will be given due recognition for all the efforts they have contributed through out the Rotary year. It was held last June 28, 2003 at the Riverbend Hotel. Our club was well represented by IPP Dante Verano, PP Eric, PP Jimmy Capco, PP Roland Garcia, VP Vincent Santos, Dir. Celso, Rtn. Ronie Masangkay, Sps. Noemi, Lydia, Vising. Book Donation. July 3, 2003 Thursday, that morning was sweltering hot, the sun shone brightly but unexpectedly after lunch the sky grew dimmer and the rain poured hard making the road to Malanday High School wet and muddy. It did not dampen our enthusiasm. It was our club first project in this Rotary Year with the theme: Lend a Hand. This is our continuing commitment to lend a hand to the needs of our adopted school. PP Tony Fidelino even skipped lunch just to be there on time and later accompanied by Dir. Celso Cruz. President Dindo Santos led the club with Spouse Cecil in tow to be the official photographer. Dr. Edgar Nieto, the school principal received the books in behalf of the school in a short informal turnover program hosted by Dir. Fabi Cadiz. IPDG Efren de Guzman was present together with IPP Dante Verano, PE Kiko Pe Benito, Dir. Pons, PP Flor, Rtn. Noel, Rtn. Benjie, Rtn. Claro, Rtn. Eduard. Members of the Inner Wheel Club of Marikina led by President Noemi Verano, Sps. Arlene, Vicky, Eula, Julie, Vising were also present to lend a hand in this first project of the club. The rain serves as a good backdrop to those present to exchange pleasantries after a short hiatus. Either the rain is a sign of good luck or whatever, it doesnt matter; this first project was a pleasant start for us.

The Family of Rotary: A Rotary International and District Thrust by PP Tony Fidelino

DG Tony Puyat has demonstrated in the recently concluded District Handover what the Family of Rotary includes. He brought in his entire family to participate in the handover programmespouse, children and grandchildren. In so doing, he has shown that Rotary and family mix well together, each reinforcing the other. He has also exemplified the universal nature of a Rotarians caring warmth, equally extending to all.

RI President Jonathan Majiyagbe enjoined us to strengthen family involvement in Rotary related activities. He stressed that Rotary is and must not be limited only to its members. The Family of Rotary, composed of the Rotarians with their spouses and children, its partners in serviceRotaract, Interact, and the Rotary Community Corps, is a haven that provides encouragement, support and strength in the successful implementation of the programs of Rotary. In Rotary, he added, we do not have to be alone, for Rotary encompasses not only its 1.2 members but also their spouses and other family members who provide critically important support to Rotarys service efforts.

He asks every club to form a Family of Rotary Committee that will find more ways to create and nurture the atmosphere and warmth of caring within and amongst the clubs, and to extend Rotarys caring reach beyond each Rotarian to include that Rotarians spouse and children. To him, not even the death of a Rotarian should put an end to Rotarys relationship with his family for there are ample opportunities to include a deceased Rotarians family in Rotary-sponsored events. With such a pervading familial atmosphere, he continues, all of Rotarys good works outside of the clubs will be made possible.

Truly, there are many opportunities to include the family in Rotary activities. We have been doing some of them for quite sometime. The thrust clarified and affixed as well the stamp of approval on our practice and tradition. In fact, we even succeeded in encouraging the charging of second generation Rotarians who took on and followed the footsteps of their distinguished fathersJun, Edward and Solita, Dindo, Ronald, Winston and Patrick. Gov. Tony himself confessed that it was after the death of his illustrious father that he felt someone should continue the good works which inspired him to be active in Rotary.
