LADIES NIGHT / "BRING INTIMACY BACK TO LOVE"

President On Call 24/7 by Pres. Dindo Santos

If I did not get married last February, I will be completely ignorant of our topic tonight. Bring Intimacy Back to Love. Though not exactly ignorant, I still have a lot more to learn on this topic. Is there really such a time in ones married life when intimacy is lost? Ano ba yan?

Of course we have a pool of experts on this topic in our club. Having spent almost half of their lives married, our senior Rotarians have known well how to handle this situation. In fact, I do admire their steadfast dedication and total commitment to uphold their vowed promises in sickness and in health, till death do us part. They have continuously nurtured through the years a craving relationship that is exalted with heavenly joy, peaceful bliss and blessedness. They are perfect examples of ideal couples, and ideal Rotarians too. How about sharing with us your wisdom as part our Club Service?

Having been married for 6 months now, I learned many new things in life. I learned what the word PRIORITY means. Before, I wondered why some members absent themselves in our regular meeting. And when I looked at our Valley Wheel, I discovered it is either their anniversary or their spouses birthday. I now understand why some members go straight home and did not join our after meeting fellowships because their respective spouse is waiting for them at home. I now know why it is hard for other members to attend all our activities. There are times that one must just stay home and be with the family they simply practice the dictum that charity begins at home, with the wife most specially. It is for the reason why we have a Ladies Night. It is also for this reason that we are encouraged to have a Family of Rotary Committee that will find ways to nurture a familial atmosphere in our club; for Rotary must and should not compete with the family.

I pray that you will also extend me the same kind understanding on my situation. I am starting to build a family. Not like the previous presidents that adjusted only to the responsibilities of the presidency, I am adjusting and doing my best to be good on both: in my new family, and in my old family the Rotary Club of Marikina. Please LEND me A HAND!

Timpalak sa Pagsulat at Pagbigkas Part II. There were eighteen High Schools who participated in this year hosting of the Timpalak sa Pagsulat at Pagbigkas. The private schools and public schools were equally represented. The second part of the contest last August 21, 2003 was well attended by school representatives and members of our club. It is the climax of the contest where the written essay on the first part will have to be recited. The members of the Committee headed by their Director Responsible Dir. Fabi Cadiz, Chairman Rtn. Enciong San Juan; members Rtn.Claro Capco and Ronie Masangkay, were all dressed up to the formal occasion. Mr. Panteleon Gavino was Chairman of the Board of Judges with Dr. Ponciano P. Pineda and Mrs. Elizabeth M. Nepomuceno as members. It was really a difficult task in deciding the winners. Ma. Belerie P. Lopez of Our Lady of Perpetual Succor College was adjudged the Champion while Jelaine Mary S. Ramos of Roosevelt College San Mateo and Mary Candice A. Ramos of Sta. Elena High School were 1st runner up and 2nd runner up respectively. This is one of the highly attended project so far, may be in anticipation for make up of attendance since the regular meeting that Thursday was moved to a Saturday for the 1st Marikina Zone Inter City Meeting held at Domiguez Garden, Provident Village. Present were: Pres. Dindo Santos, PP Tony Fidelino, Rtn. Eduard Farcon, VP Vincent Santos, PS Edwin Yutuc, Rtn. Junjun Farcon, Rtn. Claro Capco, Dir. Del de Guzman, Rtn. Membership Growth and Development Forum. In observance of the month of August as the Membership and Extension month, a District Membership Growth and Development Forum was held last Saturday, August 23, 2003 at Ateneo Social Development Complex Conference Hall. Our Club was represented by President Dindo Santos with PP Boy Ong, PP Joe Lee, IPP Dante Verano and PE Kiko Pe Benito.

1st Marikina Zone Inter-Club Meeting. When our President Dindo Santos was inducted together with other Helping Presidents, he surprised us by singing in the middle of his acceptance speech. That was his first public appearance as a singer. In the 1st Marikina Zone Inter-Club Meeting last August 23, 2003 held at Domiguez Garden at Provident Village, unfortunately to many of us, missed his second public appearance as a singer when he was asked to lead the singing of the District Theme Song. This role is usually reserved either to VP Vincent Santos or PE Kiko Pe Benito, but because of the confidence of his co-Helping President in his singing ability, he was chosen, not forced, to lead the singing. I believe just like MMDA chairman Bayani Fernando, our President Dindo will have a good singing career in the near future. It was again an evening to remember since only few made it to the meeting. We were expected to fill up some thirty reservations, but only fourteen showed up and we ended up paying more than expected for the rest of the unfilled assessed reservation. Had President Dindo campaign that he will be performing his second public appearance; I believe many will have attended that meeting. Better luck next time, we will be awaiting for his next public appearance. DDS James Dee graced that occasion with Hon. James Marty Lee, National President of Liga ng mga Barangay, was Guest Speaker. The event was hosted by RC Marikina West and RC Marikina Hilltop.

"ORGANIZING NEW ROTARY CLUBS"

To conclude this month of Membership Growth & Development in Rotary, we will veer our feature this time towards new Club organization.

It may not always be possible for certain Rotary clubs to continue to increase their membership. Some reasons for this include:
  • Meeting facilities may not be able to accommodate a larger group;
  • Meeting time may not be convenient for new members;
  • Community projects do not appeal to new members; or
  • The club may become too big to handle and manage.

Sometimes growth is best accomplished through extension---the establishment of new clubs. In recent years, charter members of new Rotary clubs have been a vital part of Rotarys membership growth. The club is the medium by which the program of Rotary is promoted and the Object of Rotary is attained. Therefore, in order that Rotary may exert its widest influence, it should progressively establish new clubs throughout the world wherever and whenever it can reasonably be expected that a successful club can be maintained.

It is the responsibility of the Extension committee to ensure the following criteria are met:
  • There must be a sufficient number of business and professional people who are able to fit into the fellowship of Rotary and form a base for any club.
  • The club must be able to function freely as a non-political entity of an international organization, which is committed to the ideal of service to humanity and the enhancement of the quality of life.
  • The club must be able to meet regularly as required by the standard Rotary Club Constitution.
  • The club must be able to meet the financial obligations prescribed by the RI By-laws.
  • The club must be able to plan and implement service projects in each of the four avenues of service, including participation in The Rotary Foundation.
  • The club must be able to promote the fellowship of Rotary within clubs, districts, and other countries.
