President's Message by Pres. Dante Verano

In the midst of our nations economic uncertainty, political turmoil, unrestrained crimes, rampant corruption in government one would think that though there is great evil, there is a greater good. We in Rotary Club of Marikina is least affected by all of these, for tonight we observe the hallowed traditions that make the season special.

Christmas is a time of wonder and joy, of generosity and peace that brings family and friends together in celebration and song. We will sing old song and familiar hymn as prepared for us by our indefatigable Christmas Fellowships Chairman Don Manolo. He prepared this special function as early as the start of my induction as president of our club. I am sure you had your share of rehearsal and preparations with our committee. It is in the complexity of rehearsal and preparations that we come to know each other better and develop a deeper sense of camaraderie.

At Christmastime, Christians celebrate God's love revealed to the world through Christ. And the message of Jesus is one that all of us can embrace this holiday season -- to love one another. We show love for others in the giving of gifts that is why I am encouraging all of you to show our love to our less fortunate children of Marikina. Let us join Chairman Rey Montoya in giving these children a joyful Christmas experience in a party prepared this coming Sunday at 1 PM at MRYC.

May we all experience peace, and may we all find hope. And as we again celebrate Christ's birth, may the glorious light of God's goodness and love shine forth

Noemi joins me in wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May God's blessings of peace be upon us.

"ROTARY FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE"

Rotary Friendship Exchange is Rotary's international exchange program for Rotarians and their families. Friendship Exchange provides participants the opportunity to experience other cultures by staying in the homes of Rotarians in other countries. The program aims to advance international understanding and peace through personal contact across borders while developing interclub relationships for fellowship and service projects.

There are three types of Friendship Exchanges:

Visitor Program

Individual Rotarians, who may be accompanied by family members, spend a few days in the home of a Rotarian in another country.

Team Program

Rotarian couples, typically four to six, visit several communities in a host district for up to one month.

Uni-vocational

Host and guest Rotarians of the same occupation observe how their job is done in other countries.

Program Guidelines

Only Rotarians and their immediate families are eligible to participate in the visitors program, while participation in the team program is limited to Rotarians and their spouses. A Rotarian must always accompany his/her spouse or children on an exchange.

Rotarians interested in participating in an exchange must apply through their club president, who will inform them if their district is participating in the program. District governors from participating districts will have appointed a district Friendship Exchange chairperson, who is responsible for coordinating exchanges through a list of chairpersons from around the world. A copy of this list can be obtained from RI staff.
