In as much as August is fast approaching, it being the month when we celebrate National TB Month, a physician from the City Health Office was invited as guest speaker.
Dr. Maria Rosario Clarissa Singh-Vergeire, spoke lengthily on the statistics of tuberculosis patients specifically in Marikina as well as the problems they encounter in treating these patients. She expounded on the program of the Department of Health in their new approach of treatment which is the DOTS wherein medicines are given directly to the patients by Barangay Health Workers to insure that they take the medicines everyday. The City Government has enough medicines to treat the known 450 TB cases in the city.
She requested the Rotary Club of Marikina to support their forthcoming TB Alert 2000 Campaign.
