Emergency and Disaster Services
The Emergency & Disaster Committee of RC Marikina chaired by Rtn. Pons de Leon in cooperation with the Inner Wheel Club of Marikina headed by Pres. Lydia distributed 100 bags of relief goods consisting of rice, noodles, sardines and mineral water to the families affected by typhoon "Ditang" and tropical storm "Edeng" at the Malanday Elementary School evacuation center last July 6, 2000.
The continuous rains and floodings necessitated another day of relief operation that's why our Club spearheaded a multi-NGO response. Last Sunday, July 9, 2000, RC Marikina, IWC Marikina, RC Metro Marikina, RC Marikina West, Marikina Chamber of Commerce & Industries, REACT NCR, REACT NCR North, REACT NCR East, REACT NCR West, Civic Action Team and Marikina Valley Medical Society joined hands and pooled their resources together to help the affected families. The volunteers prepared 360 bags of relief goods and another 60 bags came from REACT. Gov. Teddy Zamora and spouse Mely donated 6 boxes of sardines and participated in the distribution. The group distributed the relief goods in 3 evacuation centers namely: Malanday Elementary School, H. Bautista Elementary School and Nangka Elementary School.
