Vitamin A Supplementation

RC Marikina participated in the nationwide simultaneous Vitamin A Supplementation Project last February 14, 2001. A total of 1,497 Grade I pupils from Malanday and Sto. Nio Elementary Schools each received 200,000 I.U. of Vitamin A from the team composed of Chair Val, Pres. Eric, IP Tony, PE Dante, Sec. Dindo, PP Flor, Dir. Lito de V., Dir. Francis, Rtn. Celso and Spouses Lydia, Noemi, Isay,, Arlene and Office Sec. Jing.

The giving of Vitamin A aims to prevent blindness caused by such vitamin deficiency - a type of blindness due only to malnutrition - among the youth. Parents sometimes are not able to detect poor vision among their children but teachers can identify them in school when they manifest poor grades and are unable to comprehend. After detection, member ophthalmologists will do confirmatory tests then provide the necessary management. The 2nd dose will be given on September 2001.

The District coordinator of this project is RC Marikina's PP Ver Farcon and RC Marikina acted as the Lead Club in Zone 4.
