Major Evans of the "D" Division was a grand chap to serve under. Evans was a real thruster. The 4.5 How's maximum range was always easing his guns forward, now that we were on the defensive. The yarn was circulated that on more than one occasion he had dragged a couple of guns ahead of our infantry forward localities, no longer trenches, then beckoned the lads to come on and join him.
