SPRING 2007 EDITION
Welcome
to the Spring 2007 edition of the “News n Views” Hopefully you enjoy your
read….please remember to notify us of any change of address.

President's Report:
To All Comrades:
I wish it were with good news that
I leave the position of Branch President, but it is not. Our finances are usually in the positive at
this time of year, but unfortunately we are now in the negative. However, with all of your continuing
support, I am confident we can pull our selves back up into the positive.
Again, I would like to encourage
you all to attend the General Meetings every first Thursday of the month from
September to June. The next meeting,
May 3rd, is our election night.
All voting members should make an effort to be there.
I am honoured to have been given
the opportunity to serve the Members of Branch 10 for these many past years and
in many different capacities, but now it is time to pass the gauntlet. You have some very fine choices in the
nominations for executive and I wish the next President and Executive the very
best.
Yours in Comradeship
ELECTIONS…..ELECTIONS……ELECTIONS…….ELECTIONS

Sick Committee
In
January of 2007, George and Claire invited me to accompany them to visit the
vets at Sunnybrook. This was a
highlight for me; the vets were friendly and happy to see George and
Claire. What these two members do for
our vets is terrific. Visiting the vets
each month requires a great amount of their time and they do this willingly.
The
Sunnybrook Veterans seem to be OK. Had
some concern over the quarantine in March, but it has been lifted now. They are enjoying their bus trips and
outings. They look forward to our visits every month and to their treats.
Dorothy McKenna hasn't
been the greatest at Beaches Arms. Al
Hagar, Bob Stadon are holding their own.
Jean Nixon is no longer at Kennedy Lodge and we have had no information so far, as to where she is. We will get in touch with Gord Neal to see
how he is doing.
That’s all for now.
Yours in Comradeship,
George McKiel

Membership Report
Branch 10 has had the
privilege of welcoming new members; we have also renewed memberships for those
who have for various reasons had let their membership lapse. Welcome to you all.
Our newest members
include the following: Anna Comiskey,
M. Vincent Dejardins, Christopher Gray, Jo-Anne Gray, Les James, Geoffrey
Lancaster, Jerome McGroarty, April Murphy and John Sigvaldason. I ask all members of our Legion to maintain
their reputation of being a very friendly legion by welcoming our new members
and extending a hello to visitors.
While we have been
welcoming our new members we have been saying goodbye to many of our older
members who have passed away. We will
miss them all. Please be sure to read
the memorial board whenever a notice is posted.
We are still having
problems with Dominion Command in Ottawa.
Some requests for membership cards have not been answered, even though
the information has been sent in months ago.
I must say, I really appreciated the patience of those who are still waiting
for their 2007 membership cards.
By the end of the
month I intend to have the Toonie draw purged.
If you haven't renewed your membership, your name will be withdrawn from
the drum, as well, you will not be served at the bar. Please look after this matter ASAP.
You may have noticed
on our membership card that your years of service number is 1 year short,
Ottawa has promised to fix this on your 2008 membership card.
Thank you all for your
continued support.
Yours in comradeship,
Kay Hill Membership Chair

Sports have been very
successful this year, we started our zone tournaments with the cribbage

we also advanced to District on this event as well, which was played again at
Branch 66 on Sun.Jan.28th,2007 and again advanced no further but
thanks guys for a good day.

4th, sport event
was regular dart tournament, consisting of singles, doubles and teams held at

the doubles, unfortunately but not for the lack of trying, we did not advance,
thanks to all that participated.
5th, sport event
was the euchre tournament which we originally had 6 teams sign up that has been
the most ever, but unfortunately 1 team had to drop out do to a funeral for a
legion member and a dart player of the Tues night dart league, (TOM ROGERS) our
condolences went out to the family, also 1 other team had 1 player that did not
show up so unfortunately we had to send the other 3 players home, ever so sorry
for the inconvenience. This event was held at Branch 22 on Sat.Feb.10th,
2007 and we have 1 team moving onto the district level at Branch1/42 on Sun.
April 1st, 2007,This team consist of Travis Mathews, John Mathews,

was the mixed team and double dart tournament held at Branch 22, we had 2 teams

Branch 22, we did quite well in this event, our two teams are
advancing to district, 1st team came in second, our 2nd
team came in 4th. 6 teams total advance, congratulations. Our
doubles fought right down to the wire for a spot, they fought hard, they had 4
teams tied but unfortunately did not make it, not for the lack of trying. Our
teams will be playing in Districts on Sunday May 6th, 2007 at Branch
22.
7th, sport event
is the shuffleboard event , as there was no zone as they only had 1 team show
up the team was Branch 10 and they will automatically move onto District level
which will be held at Branch 258 on April 22nd, we wish them all
well.
8th and final
sport event will be horseshoes, on Sun.
June 10th, 2007, I will be putting up the sign up sheets in the
