The Total Precision is based on a magazine article in Popular Science.  Popular Science main story was about Trimaran Warships that several Navies were testing.  After seeing the Title Picture on the Front Cover I knew that this style boat hull would be very stable, fast, and light.  There are several new improvements to the line of rocket boats.  First is the use of Fiberglass.  The same used in real boats that you buy.  The fiberglass was actually repair kit for other boat owners.

The Construction:

The boat hull was formed from craft foam.  It was shaped to the basic design that I wanted.  After finishing the three shapes that I needed my dad and I worked on laying and laminating the fiberglass.

The engine mount is also an innovative concept.  The boat has a mounting plate installed beneath the resin layer.  The plate is 1/16" piece of plywood that I've used in all of my other boats.  The mount is made of a bored out dowel of hardwood and then screwed into the mounting plate with self tapping screws.  The mount is very strong and very light.

The Launches:

The first launch was powered by two A8-3's which did not ignite at the same time but did eventually both go.  The next several launches will contain C6-3 engines.  However there was only one more laucn that both motors did ignite.  Most of the time only one engine would ignite.  We believe that the problem lies within the launcher.  The launcher is powered by 4 1.5v cells.  The voltage is enough but there is not enough current to draw.  Once we fix this problem we may be able to get more accurate launches.

The Boat's Future:

I'm planning on, if it will work, to paint the boat white and maybe add racing stripes or something of that kind.  Also a mount for a D engine has been proposed.  Check back later for more news.
