Featuring Dr. Mid-nite and Amazing Man in "The Big Leagues!" Plus the
debut of the Wild Cards
Gotham City

In the deep, dark, and littered streets of Gotham City, two members
of the once famous all-star squadron are in search for the monster
known as Solomon Grundy who the Gotham police believe to be the
murderer of three sorority girls.
"Thanks for coming along with me Will I am not so sure I could handle
Grundy myself especially after the display of power he showed when
the GPD tried to apprehend him before." Dr. Mid-nite said to his
former teammate as they made their way to last place Grundy had been
sighted.
"No problem old friend I'm just glad that I have something to
contribute to this case." Amazing-Man replied," So are the others
doing since I last saw them?"
"Well every one is doing just fine including Alan though since we
have started talking about coming out of retirement to help out with
all the new troubles that are rising up every day every one is just
not agreeing on the same thing (1). What about you Will how have you
been since the war ended?"
"Well after the war, I actually found some decent work with a
construction company in Philadelphia. I moved around with them allot
helping to do repair jobs and what not. After a few years on the
road, I met Sally and I finally settled down here in Gotham to have a
family. We have two sons Will Jr. and Simon Everett."
"Well I'm happy for you old friend and I'm glad that I was able to
find you after all these years." Dr. Mid-nite replies
He then stops as he recognizes that they reached the end of the alley
which the GPD described as the last place Grundy had been.
"Here we are the last place Grundy had been sighted. Let's start
looking for some clues." Dr. Mid-nite said as he walked through the
dark alley searching for anything that could lead them to Grundy.
Crime Alley

the large lumbering figure of Solomon Grundy searches aimlessly
through the alley for his next victim that he hopes will bring out
his arch nemesis The Green Lantern.
"Grundy is smart for killing girlies now ring man will come after
Grundy and Grundy will smash him." The large lummox thinks to himself
when he steps on something squishy. As he looked down, he noticed
that he had stepped on a dog and flattened it.
"Bah! That will teach stupid mongrel to get in Grundy's way." Grundy
said to the dead dog when the owner of the dog got in Grundy's face
"Hey you @$$ hole you killed my dog! I ought to kill you for that!"
The dog owner said to chalk faced giant yet when he saw the look of
murder in Grundy's face he started to back away
"Stay away from me you freak."
"No one calls Grundy freak. Now Grundy will kill you!" the behemoth
replied as he grabbed the short stubby dog owner and tore him in
half. He then threw the two halves in two different directions.
Nearby

Dr. Mid-nite and Amazing Man's search for the chalk-skinned terror
had so far gone sour until a half of the dog owner landed right in
front of them.
"My god is�that what I think it is." Amazing Man said as he looked at
the mangled lower half of the dog owner,
"Yes it is and this means that Grundy is nearby. We must hurry if we
are going to stop his rampage through Gotham." Dr. Mid-nite replied,
"I wish Alan was here because I think we are going to need more then
my old worn muscle and your brains to beat Grundy." Amazing Man said
as he followed his former teammate in the direction that the mangled
half of the corpse came from.
After a few moments of stomping along

Grundy finally lets his impatience get the better of him and starts
lashing out at the abandoned buildings that surround crime alley.
"Rargh! Grundy is tired of waiting for ring man to come if ring man
won't come to Grundy then Grundy will come to ring man." He snarled,
"Now is that any way to treat a historical monument Grundy?" a voice
from behind him said,
"Who talks to Grundy? Has ring man finally dared to show his face?"
The seven-foot monster said as he turned around only to be
disappointed by the sight of Dr. Mid-nite and Amazing Man.
"I'm afraid your usual playmate is busy Grundy so why don't you be a
gentle giant and give up." Amazing Man said confidently
"Grundy hate ring man's friends so Grundy must kill ring man's
friends." Solomon replied and he started charging towards them.
Dr. Mid-nite immediately reaches into the pouches on his belt and
throws some of his new miniature black out bombs to obscure the
charging monster's path as Amazing Man assimilates the properties of
the steel pipe near him in order better combat Grundy.
"Rargh!"
"Come into the darkness chump because I'm about to hand you your
@$$." Amazing Man said as he waited for the monster to run through
the obscuring smoke yet to his surprise Grundy jumped over the smoke
and landed beside him then Grundy flicked him away with his massive
middle finger.
"Ha, hah Grundy like shiny man he thinks Grundy is stupid, but Grundy
will not fall for Shiny man and masked man's tricks. Now Grundy will
crush masked man and force ring man to fight him." Grundy said as he
started to walk towards the much smaller form of Dr. Mid-nite
"Great with Will down there is no way that I can take Solomon down
myself, but I can't let him get into any populated parts of Gotham
with the kind of damage he could cause." Dr. Mid-nite thought to
himself as he was being backed into a corner and felt Grundy's giant
mitts wrap around his neck.
As the pressure of Grundy's vise like grip increases, Dr. Mid-nite
can feel his very breath, leave his body, his lungs burn and his body
aches. His sight begins to deem as he feels death's cold touch trying
to grip him when suddenly Grundy's grip starts loosening and the man
monster starts to slowly move away from our hero. Dr. Mid-nite looks
into Grundy's eyes and notices that he is in some form of trance, but
who has the power to do that to Grundy? His answer came when a rather
short and skinny man in his mid twenties to early thirties made his
way into the condemned part of town. His eyes focused on Grundy and
his index and middle fingers were placed on his temple as if he was
focusing his mind on some Herculean task.
"Whoever you are I owe you my thanks, but how have you managed to
calm him?" Dr. Mid-nite asked his savior when suddenly a green alien
landed in front of him with an orange and black body suit.
"Do not distract Ecstasy from his task human for I need a moment to
gather the energy for what I am about to do." The green alien said as
his red eyes started to glow and a humming sound could be heard
"Whenever� you're ready� Terminal this big lug� is not� going
anywhere." Ecstasy replied through their psionic rapport.
"Wait minute you cannot be doing what I think your doing Grundy must
be held responsible for the murder of those girls he killed. You
cannot kill him for what is the justice in it. He would return any
ways from Slaughter Swamp." Dr. Mid-nite protested
Terminal merely said nothing as his eyes continued to glow and the
heat that they generated started to reach its peak. The humming sound
started to die down and the green alien known as Terminal let loose
with the full peak of his heat vision atomizing Solomon Grundy beyond
his ability to regenerate (2). Ecstasy erstwhile seemed to have
gained some high off tampering with Grundy's mind. Dr. Mid-nite
dropped to his knees as he thought about the parents of the girls
that Grundy murdered who would now go unavenged because these two
rookies took justice into their own hands. He then punched his fist
into the ground and wondered what kind of god would let this happen.
As he stood up Terminal looked at him with his deep red eyes and for
a moment it seemed as Terminal understood why Dr. Mid-nite was
frustrated, but Charles McNider the man behind the mask did not care
for the last thirty years. He has spent righting wrongs and protecting
the innocent from scum like Grundy and Boss Maroni the man who had
him nearly killed. To have everything he has ever worked for spit
upon by two vigilantes made his stomach turn. As he made his way over
to see if Will was all right, he saw another costumed figure standing
on a roof above Ecstasy and Terminal obviously their backup from what
he could tell. It also seemed the figure was a woman wearing a black
and red bodysuit with metal shin guards. Her mask was divided into a
red and black pattern just like her costume with it ending at the tip
of her nose letting her lips and mouth to be revealed. She also
seemed to have some kind of weapon strapped to her back. It looked
much like a long sword or a katana blade that ancient Japanese nobles
use to arm themselves with during their middle age.
"Are you all right Will?" Dr. Mid-nite said as helped Amazing Man up
"Yeah I'll be okay once the street stops spinning." Will replied
before he blacked out
The Brimstone, Gotham City

"I do not see why you asked us to bring you here when your friend is
in need of immediate medical attention Dr. Mid-nite." Terminal said
as he floated behind the aged adventurer
"Yes, but those fools haven't been researching metahuman physiology
nor have they ever performed surgery on one I have twice. Once was on
Flash when the broke his leg in three places and the other time was
when Commander Steel fractured his skull (3)."
"I see so you indeed have experience, but have you ever treated a
metahuman that can mimic the properties of any organic material he
touches?"
"Oh, shut up and help me set him up on the table. Then I will have to
run a cat scan on his head to see what kind of trauma was done to his
brain."
"That will not be necessary I have already x-rayed his head and he
appears to have a piece of bone fragment lodged centimeters into the
right side of his brain."
"Well thanks a lot that narrows it down now all I have to do is cut
him open and remove the fragment with out further damaging his brain."
"That also will not be necessary." Terminal said as he phased his
hand into Will's head and gently removed the bone fragment," As you
can see I have removed the fragment and the wound is nothing but
slightly deep."
"Gee you're so optimistic you do realize that if my friend has any
brain damage he will never be the same again you green freak." Dr.
Mid-nite said as he flung his mask into the wall in a fit of anger
"I would not worry his healing abilities are quite adequate to
prevent any permanent damage and as it appears that I am disturbing
you my comrades and I will take our leave." Terminal said as he
floated off
After a few moments of waiting Will finally awoke and called out a
name," Charles? Are you their?"
"I am here old friend don't worry everything will be all right I�We
took care of the bone fragment that was lodged in the right side of
brain and being compressed deeper inside."
"Thanks�Charles I knew you would do whatever you could for me now I
know that when I am back to one hundred percent there is something I
have to do."
"What is that Will?" Charles said as he leaned closer
"Have my grandson join the Justice Society as the new Amazing Man for
it's about time I retired from the life of a hero." William replied
Charles smiled and felt tears sting his old eyes," Yeah I am sure
your grandson will make a fine addition to the Justice Society if we
can ever agree on coming out of retirement."
Alcatraz

the once abandoned historical monument has been reopened for the use
of the containment of the rising metahuman menace as well as normal
criminals. Inside one of the main cellblocks lies Adam Fells the
villain known as Geomancer who is a geomorph with the ability to
create shockwaves through the Earth as well as shifting large
landmasses and exploiting minute fractures in rock and concrete.
During an attempt to sink the city of San Francisco Fells was
captured by a secret government opts team which then placed him here
in Alcatraz until it was time for his special arraignment.
"So what's the deal with this place Mister Gibbs?" Fells said to the
guard who had been watching over him for the past three weeks since
he was captured.
"Don't worry Fells you will know soon enough as for Miss Mykros here
she will be joining you in your new life." Gibbs replied,
"So I'm being paroled?" Fells asked dumbfounded
"That depends on how well you serve out your sentence. You see the
government has use for the both of you whose powers will come in
handy with the type of jobs that you will be taking on."
Geomancer's head sunk low as he tried to figure out what hell the
government had planned for him and what could he expect from his new
teammate.
"Here put on your costumes and be ready for deployment in twenty
minutes because very soon you're going to be hunting your very first
alien specimen." Gibbs said as he tossed their costumes inside of
their cells," Oh by the way do not try anything these cells still
have power suppressors activated in case you had something in mind."
Gibbs then walked off to do his usual rounds while Fells and Mykros
got undressed so they could put on their costumes. After twenty
minutes of waiting Gibbs walked back in with a smile on his face,"
Good you two do know how to take orders and now I want you to put
these bracelets on for they are the first part of your arraignment."
"What does these bracelets do jerk?" Geomancer said and suddenly he
felt a tremendous voltage course through his body that made him fall
to his knees.
"They do that Fells they keep you on the short leash we have you on
and make sure that no matter where you go you always know who is in
control. There will be other villains who will join your rag tag
bunch, but for now you two are it."
"Humph! To pitted with this weakling is an insult." Nemesis said with
a scowl
"Can it sister or I will...AHHHHHHHH!" again the voltage coursed
through Geomancer's body and Nemesis's as well
"I told you and hopefully I won't have to tell you two again. Now
lets go board the chopper like good little troopers otherwise you
will have another lesson."
The three then marched up to the chopper that was waiting for them in
the courtyard, which would take them to Smallville where they would
try to pick up the missing specimen's trail.
1) These events take place prior to JSA #1 and after the Golden Age
Prologue
2) We all know that like his counterpart the Hulk Grundy is
practically immortal and cannot die for the elements of slaughter
swamp always bring him back.
3) Being a professional doctor and researcher, I pretty much think
that Charles is capable of performing the same things that Pieter the
current Dr. Mid-nite has done with his fellow members Jakeem Thunder
and Mister Terrific as well as Powergirl. In fact, if I remember
correctly a lot of what the new Dr. Mid-nite is was based on the
original except that they gave Pieter more of a personality.
Next Month: I do not know who will have the writing reigns of ADCU
presents, but I am sure that it will be a BIG story!
