Rockdale girls eye sectional By BRANDON EVANS brandon.evans@rockdalecitizen.com CONYERS — The Rockdale girls are looking to wrap up a trip to Carrollton in Saturday’s Class AAAA Cross Country Sectional at Gainesville College. Chad Suddeth’s Rockdale Lady Bulldogs will hit the trails at 10:30 a.m.. The Lady Bulldogs clinched a bid to the sectionals by collecting a fourth-place team finish in the region meet. Carys Fincher, who has already secured a state bid, leads a cast of Lady Bulldogs, who have continued to improve thus far this season. Fincher, along with Kayla Johnson, Katie Johnson, Alicia Bellis and Jenna Williamson rounded out the top five in the region meet for Rockdale. “This is the first time ever that either a boys or a girls team has qualified for sectionals or state,” Suddeth noted. “We’re very excited about it and very fortunate to have that opportunity.” The Lady Bulldogs will be running on an unfamiliar course, but according to Suddeth that may not be so bad. “We’ve never ran the course and that is a concern, although this year we’ve actually ran better on courses that we’re running for the first time. So we’re hoping that trend continues,” said Suddeth. Like Smith’s team, Suddeth’s squad will need at least an eighth-place finish overall to qualify for state. “Considering that we finished fourth in our region, which I feel is one of the strongest regions, I feel confident that we can go out there and finish in the top eight,” Suddeth Rockdale girls are looking to wrap up trips to Carrollton in Saturday’s Class AAAA Cross Country Sectional at Gainesville College. said. “My girls will be disappointed if they don’t.”
