In a moment of solemn reflection, even amidst the chaos of thousands of people at the Meiji Shrine on New Year's Day, this man makes his wishes for the new year to be a good one. After tossing in his five yen piece, clapping his hands twice and bowing his head in prayer, the man moved on toward the waiting vendors and back into the celebration of welcoming in 2001. But this quiet moment lingers at the site where thousands will follow him.
