"Face in the Crowd"
Equipment: Nikon F90x    Date: January  2001

This 17-year-old Japanese girl was following a new years rite of passage that she no doubt had done since she was little.  She spent an awful long time, however, on her "K-Tei" (cel phone), probably looking for friends in the crowd.  It struck me as odd because I kept imagining being at the synagogue and whipping out my cel phone to find a friend elsewhere in the sanctuary!  Of course, for the Japanese, the religious significance is fairly minute...this is mostly a tradition, and not an observance.
