"Behind the Barricade"
Equipment: Nikon F90x    Date: January  2001

Each police officer held part of what could only be described as "barricade tape," inching slowly and with measured steps, the masses waiting to greet the shrine at Meiji for the first time this millennium.  Several people were curious as to my motives for taking these pictures.  One couple was overheard asking, "Why is he taking pictures of the crowd?  Why doesn't he shoot pictures of the kimonos?"  They wondered why I wasn't more interested in Japanese culture.  Oh, but I was.  A crowd this size in America would never have been held at bay by mere "barricade tape."
