"The Japanese and the Jazz Man"
Equipment: LOMO LC-A    Date: October 2000

The old man sat on the public bench, holding his cigarette between his thumb and forefinger rather than the customary forefinger and middle finger combination.  He seemed to almost have a companion in the iron statue seated next to him.  Such statues line this main street in Yokosuka City; Jazz musicians who look tired and worn-out -- not unlike the old man.  He had nowhere to be that October afternoon.  He stares off at the nearby train station, where dozens of people are making their hurried marches to and from the city.  He'll just take his time on that bench and wait for the air to get a little chillier, the light to dim, and then he'll say goodbye to his mute friend and head for home...
