Maybe you've seen that episode of "The Simpsons" where the family appears on a Japanese game show and at one point, Homer is tied to the top of a tower in Tokyo, where he is struck by lightning bolts. Well, that was Tokyo Tower. What's so incredibly odd about it is that the area surrounding the tower is very much like the cartoon. Even the buildings look similar.
One hot afternoon, I decided to play tourist, and visited this obvious shrine towards the visiting dollar and discovered that, like most things in Japan, the tower serves more purposes that merely a place to see all of Tokyo from one place.
