Shadows and Smiles

i watch from my quiet corner,
Safely hidden from others eyes,
i put up my mask, smile and laugh,
Answer with all of the proper lies.

For most i seem happy - seem to fit in,
Quiet and friendly, a face in the crowd,
Dance the dance, play the part given,
Let no one see - draw my cloak like a shroud.

How did it happen - when could they tell,
When was it noticed - how could they know,
The ones who saw past the shadows and smiles,
Did i let them see so far into my soul?

The guard so long maintained, so carefully crafted,
Was i so careless - or is there more to it,
Did i step too far from the shadows and smiles,
Or perhaps it was finding a true kindred spirit.
Shadows

We hide is the shadows where it is safe,
Longing for the warmth of the light
Yet we fear the light - to be known, seen
And when noticed we once again take flight

From the shadows we watch, longing yet afraid
A part yet apart from your life in the light
Yearning to be there, to fit in and belong
Knowing it is safest to stay out of sight

So we steal guarded moments in the light
When no one else sees or seems to care
If we are seen it will be time to move on
To find a new shadow and to shelter there

Those who see us wonder, so different - and yet
Somehow never fitting in, so feral at heart
Never understanding how those like me
Wish to join them and somehow become a part
Silver Tears

So small and alone in an inhospitable world
Struggling through each day just to stay alive
As people rush by if they notice them at all
Remark and wonder that they manage to survive

We rush through our live, no one has the time
To find a moment to reach out to them or care
Know that even though they seem to be alone
That there is one who for them is always there

So many eyes that see but don't see them
Hearts that don't take notice of their plight
In a world that seems to not notice them at all
There is always one who keeps them in his sight

As we rush through our lives passing them by
Too busy to find time for them in our busy lives
They are not alone, they are watched with love
There is one who keeps them always in his eyes

They suffer through short lives of want and fear
Then are seemingly unremarked when they've past
But know for them there are silver tears that fall
A tender heart waiting as he brings them home at last
Vision

Rainbow confetti carpeting the meadow
faces swaying gently in the sunlight
Watch the tatters of gem colored streamers dance
fluttering overhead oh so softly.

If you look and can see only stems and leaves
or can see only a colorful bug
You will miss the grace of the delicate dance
provided for those who with wonder see.
